Why run a rack configuration?
By providing Data Exchange with a
rack configuration and a software resource
listing, we can evaluate your
current system, identify slots or
expansion cabinets that may be
utilized. and recommend
alternative upgrades or replacement
equipment with consideration of any
software costs involved.
How do I run rack configuration?
The system configuration list is a
printed record of your system
contents. You will find this
list useful when you recover from a
disaster or evaluate the results of a
major system change.
- To print the system
configuration list:
Sign on with a user profile that
has authority to use service
commands.
- Enter the STRSST command and use
the Start Tool to select the
Hardware Service Manager option.
- Use the Print function key on
the Hardware Service Manager
display to request a
printout. The Print Format
Options display appears. You
can sort the information by
location or by logical address.
Note: The logical address sort
and location sort are available only
in 132-character width.
Your system configuration list
prints on the printer that you
specified.
Notes:
- If you select the Print function
key from a display other than the
Hardware Service Manager display,
the system prints only the
information that appears on the
display
- Use the last page of the
printout [the legend] to help you
interpret the information.
- The logical hardware and the
packaging hardware have unique
resource names.
To collect more details about the
information on the system
configuration list, you can select the
Print function key from a display
other than the Hardware Service
Manager display.
Note: The system does not
print the entire configuration list,
only the information that appears on
the display.
Is all refurbished equipment
eligible for maintenance?
All equipment provided by Data
Exchange is eligible for a standard
IBM maintenance agreement.
However, the user must follow the
procedures set forth by IBM to assure
that there is no associated billing
from IBM.
As defined in e-mail on 3/8/00 from
IBM Central Response Office
[newsletter #2]:
Maintenance Service Acceptability
Inspection
A Maintenance Service Acceptability
Inspection [MSAI] is a no-charge
inspection of an IBM machine prior to
it being placed on IBM Maintenance
Service [M/S].
The MSAI is always done at an
end-user location for the purpose of
immediately placing a machine of
feature on M/S. The MSAI is
not billable.
On the other hand, a Maintenance
Service Qualification [MSQ] inspection
can be done anywhere [such
as a wayside of warehouse] and is not
for the purpose of immediately placing
the machine on M/S. An MSQ
inspection, on the other hand, is
always billable.
Please contact Data Exchange if
there are any questions. Do Not
approve inspection or repair billing
by IBM without Data Exchange approval.
Data Exchange can assist you in
notifying IBM of system changes or
upgrades, and can prepare an IBM
extended maintenance agreement for any
new equipment or for any currently
installed equipment. We can also
initiate or track other IBM support
programs so all of your equipment is
properly covered. Call for
information.
